Single Crochet (sc)

Step 1

Insert the hook under both the front and back loops (i.e., under the complete ā€œVā€) of the 2nd chain from the hook. Wrap the yarn over the hook from back to front (this is called a yarn over) and catch it with the hook. Draw the yarn through the V.

Step 2

You now have two loops on the hook. Yarn over and draw the yarn through both loops on the hook.

Step 3

One single crochet stitch is complete. Continue to repeat steps 1 and 2, inserting the hook into each V across the row.

step 4

When you reach the end of the row, make one chain stitch (this is called a turning chain), then turn the piece from right to left. To begin the next row, insert the hook under the V of the first stitch (skipping the one chain stitch you just made) and repeat the steps.
