Motif Monday--Bright Flower!
make this bright flower Motif
NOTE: The original motif (above) was worked in RED HEART Soft yarn, Embers Print #9543 for the center and #9518 Teal for the petals. The outer points were formed by pinning the motif when blocking it.
Follow along with our step-by-step pictures and refer to the diagram at the bottom, as well. Some photos show the round partially completed, to make it easier to see how the stitches are worked into the previous round. The numbers at the end of each round (after a long dash) indicate how many stitches you should have after the round is completed. For example, after the first round is completed, there will be 7 single crochet stitches in the chain-4 ring.
With B, ch 4; join with sl st to form a ring.
Round 1 (Right side) Ch 1, 7 sc in ring; join with sl st in first sc—7 sc.
Round 2 Ch 7 (counts as first tr and ch-3 sp), [tr in next st, ch 3] 6 times; join with slip st in 4th ch of beginning ch-7—7 tr and 7 ch-3 sps. Fasten off. (photo above shows round partially completed).
Round 3 With right side facing, join F with sc in any ch-3 sp, 5 dc in next st, [sc in next ch-3 sp, 5 dc in next st] 6 times; join with slip st in first sc—35 dc and 7 sc. Fasten off. (photo above shows round partially completed).
Round 4 With right side facing, join G with sc in middle dc of any 5 dc group; *skip next 2 dc, ([tr, ch 1] twice) in next sc, slip st on Background, ([ch 1, tr] twice) in same sc, skip next 2 dc**, sc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with slip st in first sc—28 tr, 7 sc, 14 ch-1 sps and 7 joined ch-sps. Fasten off.
Block the motif by spraying it with water and pinning it out until dry--that's how the outer points are formed. Hovering a steam iron over it for a few seconds will help it keep its shape.
