Manchester Crochet Guild of America Conference
April Garwood was kind enough to report on the Crochet Guild of America's summer conference, held in Manchester, NH, in conjunction with the Knitting Guild of America's conference and the summer Knit and Crochet Show.
I was very excited and fortunate to attend the 2012 Knit & Crochet Show in Manchester, NH last week. It was 5 days long and packed with crocheting and knitting classes, shopping, and events.
On the show floor the Crochetville and Red Heart booth was busy with excited shoppers. There were gorgeous design samples to drool over and lots of Red Heart's classic yarns in new colors, plus many of the new Boutique yarns.
I love these new yarns! I got to see the beautfiul new Lorelei Shawl made in Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable and designed by Kimberly McAlindin. I may just have to find the time to make one for myself!
The CGOA Design Contest entries were on display on the show floor. Awards for the Afghan category were generously sponsored by Red Heart. The third place winner, seen in the middle of the three afghans, was "Diagonal Modern Art" by Nancy Smith. The second place winner, seen on the right, was "Ahana" by Brenda Bourg. The first place winner, seen on the left, was "Princess and the Pea" by Michele Wilcox. The rest of the Design Contest winners can be seen here. There are so many talented crocheters out there! Congratulations to all the winners!
On Saturday night the CGOA Banquet and Fashion Show was held. The food was good, and the company was great. During the Fashion Show, volunteer models walked down the runway in garments that were entered in the Fashion Show by yarn companies and designers.
Also at the Banquet that night, Margaret Hubert, crochet designer extraordinaire, was inducted into the Jean Leinhauser CGOA Hall of Fame. She is now the second person to be given this honor. Here she is (center) pictured with Bobbie Matela (left) and Kathleen Sams (right) of Coats & Clark. Margaret is an inspiring designer and a fun, friendly woman. Congratulations to her on this accomplishment! Bobbie and Kathleen were busy helping out in the Red Heart booth on the show floor most of the week. I enjoyed spending time with each of them too!
It was a great conference, but as usual, it was great to be home too! I'm already looking forward to next year's conference!
