October 14 is I Love Yarn Day!
If you're a knitter, crocheter, or any type of enthusiast, be prepared to show your colors on Friday, October 14th. The first annual I Love Yarn Day is heralded by the Craft Yarn Council (CYC), who is encouraging all crafters to share their passion in a number of different ways.
One way to show your allegiance is to knit an "I Love Yarn Day Badge." CYC has provided badge patterns from well-known designers that you can make and wear to show your passion. Or, better yet, design one of your own! Included are quotes from the designers professing the reasons they love yarn. Inspirational reading.
Check our Linda Permann's pink and green heart Badge if you're looking to wear your heart on your sleeve--or some other place!
The council also encourages fiber fanatics to:
- Teach someone to knit or crochet
- Do something for charity
- Wear a knitted or crocheted item
- Give a gift of yarn
- Take your yarn to work
- Host a yarn-a-bration party
- Knit, crochet and craft in public.
While many of us do just such behaviors on a near-daily basis, it's important to take time out to formally honor the important role that yarn and our crafts play in our lives. Whether your style is to shout I Love Yarn! from the rooftops or to share your yarn in a more subtle fashion, spread the word. Short of ideas? Try Twitter, Facebook, your blog, your LYS, your coffee shop, the village square, and so on. Be proud!
Stay tuned as we share what we love about yarn and ask you to share the same with us. And get cracking on those badges. We'd love to see how you interpret your love of yarn with yarn.
Go forth and crochet!
