When I buy yarn for a pattern is the swatch part of the yardage needed? or do I buy more yarn for the swatch

That's a great question! Most designers try to be generous in the yardage amounts, so you should have enough yarn to make a swatch. And if you run short of yarn, you can always unravel the swatch and use it.
